Degrees - The Sims 4 Guide

By far the biggest feature of The Sims 4: Discover University is Degrees. Your Sim can join either Britechester University or Foxbury Institute and enroll in one of 13 degrees the Expansion Pack has to offer.

What Are Degrees in The Sims 4?

Degrees are crucial if you want to build up your Sim's career. Completion of a Degree allows your Sim to enter their chosen career at a higher level than if they were to start it via the normal route. Having a Degree can also get your Sim higher pay, more vacation days, and easier promotions.

There are four types of Degrees: regular, With Honors, Distinguished, and Distinguished With Honors. The latter is the highest, but courses require specific conditions to be met before your Sim is allowed to enroll. Both Britechester University and Foxbury Institute offer all Degrees, but the Distinguished courses are only offered at a specific one. More on this below.

Once enrolled, your Sim will need to go to class several times per week, which they will do automatically unless you've disabled the "Act Freely" setting. There are also tasks outside of class like homework and exams across semesters. Semesters last for 7 days and there are four in a Degree period.

How to Enroll in a Degree

Before you enroll your Sim into a Degree, you're going to want to work on certain Skills as they won't be accepted for the one they want if they don't meet the requirements. You can find out which Skills they need in the individual Degree sections below.

To enroll, you need a computer. Click on it and select "University" and then "Apply to Universities." You can't choose which Degree you want just yet or at which University, instead your Sim will be considered by both Britechester and Foxbury for all Degrees and you'll receive a letter in the mail after two days.

Once your Sim has been notified of their acceptance, they'll also be given a list of Degrees they qualify for based on Skills and at which school. If your Sim has been through High School and received good grades, there's a higher chance they'll be able to take a Distinguished Degree, although it is possible to get onto a course without that.

Distinguished Degrees

If your Sim graduates with a Distinguished Degree in Discover University, they'll be able to get promotions more easily in their career, earn more money, and be given more vacation days than a regular degree.

Your Sim will need to have a certain Skill(s) at a high enough level to qualify for a Distinguished Degree, though there is a handful for each and your Sim won't need to know them all to get in. And while you can take any degree at both Universities, only Distinguished Degrees can be taken at a certain school.

When your Sim graduates with a Degree, they'll be able to enter their chosen Career relating to their field of study at a higher entry point. What type of Degree they graduated with determines what position they'll enter their Career at.

Art History

There are three Careers your Sim can go into once they've graduated with an Art History Degree: Critic, Painter, and Style Influencer.

Biology

There are three Careers your Sim can go into once they've graduated with a Computer Science Degree: Criminal, Engineer, and Tech Guru.

Culinary Arts

There are two Careers your Sim can go into once they've graduated with a Culinary Arts Degree: Critic and Culinary.

Drama

There are three Careers your Sim can go into once they've graduated with a Drama Degree: Actor, Entertainer, and Social Media.

Economics

Fine Arts
